What is moissanite?

A gemstone made of silicon carbide, first discovered in 1893. Natural moissanite is extremely rare, so all moissanite today is lab-grown. It is 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale (diamond is 10) and has more fire than diamond. Read the full moissanite guide.

Is moissanite a fake diamond?

No. It is its own gemstone, with its own chemistry and optical properties. It is not cubic zirconia or glass: it is far harder and keeps its brilliance for life.

Will it pass a diamond tester?

Standard thermal diamond testers read moissanite as diamond, because it conducts heat in a similar way. Professional multi-testers can tell them apart.

Does moissanite get cloudy or lose its sparkle?

No. The stone does not cloud or fade. The metal plating can wear over time, which is why we share a simple care routine.

What do D color, VVS1 and DEW mean?

D is the top color grade: completely colorless. VVS1 means inclusions are practically invisible even under magnification. DEW (diamond equivalent weight) is the carat weight a diamond of the same size would have.

What is the difference between gold plated and gold filled?

Plating is a very thin layer of gold over sterling silver. Gold filled has a thick layer of solid 14K gold bonded to the core, at least 5% of the total weight, so it lasts much longer. Browse 14K gold filled pieces.

Is your jewelry hypoallergenic?

Our metals are nickel- and lead-free, the two most common causes of reactions. Sterling silver and gold filled are well tolerated by most sensitive skin.

Can I shower or swim with my jewelry?

Better not. Water, chlorine, salt and soap wear down plating faster. Take your pieces off before showering, swimming or working out.
